Butler Co. EMA to test new weather warning sirens

GREENVILLE, AL (WSFA) - The City of Greenville will be testing two new weather warning sirens on the morning of Aug. 7, 2012.

The sirens, which were recently purchased with a FEMA/AEMA Hazardous Mitigation Grant, will sound for the first time during their initial test on Wednesday.

The Butler County EMA says during the test, the coverage area will be monitored to determine the extent of the areas reached with the warning sirens.

With the two new sirens in place, plus the two original sirens, the warning is designed to reach the majority of the city's population including the Dunbar area, the industrial area, the downtown area and the interstate area.

Butler Co. E911 tests the sirens on the first Wednesday of every month at approximately 9:30 a.m. The test should only last 1 minute. In the event of bad weather, the test is not performed nor rescheduled.
